Rooted in ancient Christian tradition (2nd c. and Tertullian), St. Odilo of Cluny (1 Jan.) established a memorial of all the faithful departed in 988. It was accepted in Rome in the 13th c. Readings: 668: Sugg: Wis 3:1–9 Ps 23:1–6 Rom 5:5–11 or Rom 6:3–9 Jn 6:37–40, or 1011–1016, (Lectionary, vol. IV) As suggested: The souls of the just are in God's hands (1). Christ, the Good Shepherd (Ps), died for us while we were still sinners (2). He is the resurrection and the life (3).
